Salmeterol
Salmeterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist drug that is currently prescribed for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is currently available as a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) or a proprietary “disk-styled” inhaler that releases a powdered form of the drug which is usually only prescribed for severe persistent asthma following previous treatment with a short-acting beta agonist such as salbutamol and is prescribed concurrently with a corticosteroid, such as beclomethasone. Ipratropium Bromide
Ipratropium Bromide is an anticholinergic bronchodilator its function is to relax the muscles surrounding the bronchioles (airways in the lungs) so that air can flow into the lungs more freely . It is used particularly in inhaler or nebulizer form to treat chronic bronchitis. Although the effects of ipratropium bromide last longer it has a much slower onset of action compared to other sympathomimetic bronchodilators. Because off this reason it would not be given to [...]
Salbutamol
Salbutamol is a sympathomimetic bronchodilator its job is to relax the airways (bronchioles) in the lungs. It is used to treat asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and other lung related problems. However, unlike salmeterol this drug is short lived. Salbutamol can be taken by mouth but it is more effective if inhaled, usually achieved through a metered dose inhaler. This is because the drug is delivered directly to the bronchioles giving rapid relief, this allows for smaller [...]

Ephedrine has been in use for around 50 years and is a bronchodilator as well as a decongestant. It was used widely as treatment for asthma, bronchitis and emphysema but as more effective drugs have been developed it is now used more these days as a decongestant in nasal drops and cough preparations. It can be used as an injection to restore normal blood levels after anaesthetics procedures. When taken by mouth or injection it [...]
